Job Overview:

As the hands-on Enterprise Data Warehouse Manager for Party City, you will hold a dual role, leading the EDW team while actively participating in the design and development of the enterprise data warehouse architecture for the entire Snowflake environment. Your responsibilities will entail overseeing the end-to-end EDW process, from data acquisition and transformation to the creation of scalable data models and analytics solutions, as well as optimizations and Snowflake database maintenance tasks. By leveraging your technical prowess and leadership skills, you will drive the strategic use of data to optimize business operations and facilitate informed decision-making across the organization. Additionally, with a hands-on approach, you'll ensure the reliability, scalability, and performance of Party City's data warehouse, enabling efficient data analytics and decision-making processes. 

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Lead the design, development, implementation and maintenance of Party City's Enterprise Data Warehouse architecture, ensuring scalability, performance, and data integrity across all our Snowflake environments.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather business requirements and translate them into scalable data cloud and EDW solutions that meet organizational needs.
  • Actively participate in hands-on data modeling, ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) development, and data integration processes within all our Snowflake environments.
  • Design and implement robust data governance policies and procedures to ensure the accuracy, security, and compliance of the Snowflake data assets across all our Snowflake environments.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Develop and maintain data dictionaries, metadata repositories, and documentation to support all PCHI data and EDW governance and usage across all our Snowflake environments.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to the EDW team, including data engineers as well as junior DBAs, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Stay abreast of emerging trends and technologies in cloud data warehouse, EDW and analytics, evaluating their potential impact on Party City's data strategy.
  • Collaborate with IT teams to optimize data infrastructure, including data storage, processing, and access mechanisms across our Snowflake environments.
  • Act as a liaison between business stakeholders, technical teams and Snowflake support, facilitating communication and alignment on EDW initiatives as well as Snowflake technical issues and solutions.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and capacity planning exercises to ensure the scalability and reliability of Snowflake databases.
  • Monitor Snowflake database, EDW performance and usage metrics, conducting regular performance reviews and optimization efforts.

Skills Required:

  • Strong understanding of database management systems and data modeling techniques.
  • Familiarity with big data, data warehouse architecture and design principles.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into scalable EDW solutions.
  • Expertise in Snowflake architecture, administration, and performance tuning.
  • Experience with Snowflake security configurations and access controls.
  • Knowledge of Snowflake's data sharing and replication features.
  • Streaming Technologies such Kafka/kenesis

  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python or Perl for automation and data manipulation.
  • Certification in data warehousing or related fields from reputable organizations or vendors.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work within strict time constraints and adapt to changing direction and timelines.

  • Experience working with internal and external compliance standards such as PCI, SOX.
  • GDPR is a plus.
  • Experience with training of system users and coordinating activity of system consultants, outside programmers, and vendors is preferred.
  • Basic understanding of accounting, manufacturing, and distribution is preferred
  • Business Acumen: must have a solid understanding of standard business functions captured in an EDW and enabled by an ERP application including A/R, A/P, G/L, Inventory, Purchasing, Customer Order Processing, Warehouse Management, as well as others a plus.


 Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field. Advanced degree (Master's or MBA) preferred.
  • 7+ years of hands-on experience in data warehousing, ETL development, and data modeling, with a focus on designing and implementing scalable EDW solutions.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience as an application database administrator, with at least 2 years of experience specifically with Snowflake.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and experience with database management systems (e.g., Snowflake, Azure, Redshift, Teradata, Oracle, SQL Server).
  • Experience with ETL tools and technologies such as Alteryx, Fivetran, Matillion, Stitch, Informatica, Talend, or Apache NiFi.
  • Expertise in data modeling techniques, including data vault 2.0, data mesh, cif, 3nf, dimensional modeling and star schema design.
  • Familiarity with data governance principles and security best practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex database issues.
  • Proven leadership and team management skills, with the ability to lead by example and inspire others to achieve excellence.
