Position Overview:

The Merchandise Assistant supports the buying team with administrative tasks and data entry/analysis related to specific merchandise departments and categories. This role primarily assists in developing weekly sales reports, setting up new items in the database and accurately inputting systemic updates.. The Merchandise Assistant will frequently communicate with members of the buying team as well as with vendors, distribution centers, and stores.

Primary Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Accurately maintain systems, assortment sheets and planograms for specific categories
  • Complete merchandise set up process - inputting all data, metrics and any attribute information into systems and assortment sheets
  • Generate and distribute all weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly sales reports
  • Create and maintain specialized reporting as necessary
  • Manage the sample process to support planogram category and marketing related requests
  • Communicate and collaborate with operations business partners on any merchandise related tasks
  • Assist in category presentation prep work (i.e. create style boards, line packets, marketing material and other information as necessary)
  • Adhere to product lifecycle calendar deadlines
  • Participate in competitive research and help identify trends and product opportunities for future assortments
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with members of cross-functional teams (Visual, Marketing, Data Management, Planning)
  • Manage and maintain communications with vendors

Job Requirements

Position Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 0-2 years experience required with a strong interest/background in retail merchandising
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Highly detail oriented and organized
  • Ability to multi-task and establish priorities
  • Display a positive attitude, professional manner and a willingness to be a team player and assist co-workers at all levels
  • Adapt and work effectively with a variety of situations, individuals or groups
  • Ability to react quickly with strong sense of urgency
  • Proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook
